Last week I was visiting a friend and she introduced me to this smoothie.I am totally a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. It’s not that I’m against eating new things, I just always go back to my trusty bowl of cereal and fruit. So, when my friend asked me what kind of smoothie I wanted for breakfast I was super original and suggested banana and yogurt.
Needless to say, I am glad that she suggested something a little more exciting. I have never really gone out of my way to make a green smoothie before. I have been juicing quite a bit the past few months and sometimes my juice turns out green but I don’t really go out of my way to shove spinach and lettuces into my beverages.
I think that this smoothie may change all that. Firstly, adding the avocado is a game changer. I didn’t really taste it but I could certainly see how it added to the creaminess of the smoothie. The kiwi adds some sweetness and tang and the lime and mint go so well with everything. It is pretty important to add some sweetness to the smoothie whether through some dates, agave or honey, especially if you are using unsweetened almond milk. You can also add some chia or hulled buckwheat for some extra protein. It will also help keep you more full. It is a pretty substantial snack or easy breakfast (for an even more tropical version, click here).
If you are using unsweetened almond milk, add a couple of dates (or agave or honey) for some sweetness.
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
